Quarter is the yourOS app store.

One store for every app on yourOS: the ones we make, apps from companies you already use, and apps from anyone with a good idea. It’s called Quarter because our ring leaves a quarter open, and that’s where everything else comes in.

Tell me what you need. I’ll find it in the Quarter.

Who made it

Four kinds of app. One set of rules.

Every app in yourOS lives by the same rules. What changes is who made it, how it was checked and what it’s allowed to ask for. You can always tell which is which: it’s in the colour of its tile.

Finding an app

Don’t shop for apps. Hire for the job.

Tell Roxy what needs doing. She comes back with a shortlist from yourOS and from the people who build for it: what each would do, what it would see and what it costs.

Try saying

  1. 1Say the job, in your own words.
  2. 2Read the shortlist. Ours comes first when it can help.
  3. 3Hire, or let it go. Any time, in one tap.

Letting it in 4 of 12

Letting it in

You see every door before it opens.

Before any app from the Quarter comes in, yourOS shows you exactly what it will see, what it may do, and what it will never touch. Change anything, and Roxy tells you in plain words what you’ve agreed to.

It will see your invoices and your customers’ emails. It asks me before every reminder.

  • An update that wants a new door waits for your OK before it installs.
  • Close a door later and the app stops at the wall.
  • Let it go and everything it kept in your yourOS is deleted.

Or make it yourself

Don’t want to pay? Make your own.

Tell Roxy what you want from a service you already use, and she makes you a private app for it. If the service has an API, it uses that. If it doesn’t, it reads the pages you already see when you sign in. Then keep it to yourself, or sell it to other people with yourOS, and earn from looking after it.

  • Your sign-in stays with you. Where it reads a website, it signs in as you, with details kept in your yourOS. Nothing goes to us.
  • If the website changes, it tells you, and you can ask Roxy to fix it. A paid app is kept up by its maker; yours is kept up by you.

Questions 11 of 12

FAQ

Questions, answered.

The short answers to what people ask us most.

What is Quarter?

Quarter is the yourOS app store, and it’s coming soon. It holds yourOS’s own apps, apps from companies you already use, apps from independent makers, and unofficial apps anyone can make. Every one runs by the same rules, and you can always tell who made it.

How do I tell yourOS’s own apps from everyone else’s?

By the tile. yourOS’s own apps are in your colour with a yourOS glyph. A company’s or a person’s app is in their own colour with their letter, and says who made it. An unofficial app is just an outline, and says it hasn’t been reviewed every time it opens.

What can an app from the Quarter see?

Only what it names and you allow, door by door. Before it comes in you see what it will see, what it may do on its own or only after asking you, and what it will never see: your messages, your journal, Sandra, your files and your other apps. Close a door later and it stops at the wall.

Are apps from the Quarter checked?

Yes, unless they’re unofficial. Companies prove who they are; every release from a company or an independent maker is checked automatically and then used by a person at yourOS before it reaches you, and it goes out to a few people first. Unofficial apps aren’t reviewed, and say so.

How do apps get paid?

Through yourOS, once or monthly, with free trials, so stopping is one tap. Makers keep most of what you pay. A company that already bills its customers can keep doing that, and yourOS takes nothing. On Asks, you can pledge for an app before it exists, and you only pay when it’s ready.

Can I make my own app instead of paying for one?

Yes. Tell Roxy what you want from a service you already use, and she makes you a private app for it: through the service’s API if it has one, or by reading the pages you already see when you sign in, if it doesn’t. It’s yours alone, it runs sealed like any other app, and it uses your own sign-in, kept in your yourOS.

Can I sell an app I made for myself?

Yes. Keep it to yourself, share it free, or sell it to other people with yourOS, once or monthly. It’s reviewed first, then listed under your name as an independent maker, and you keep most of every sale. Your sign-in never goes with it: each person connects their own account. In return you look after it: you update it when the service changes, and answer the people who use it.

Can my company bring its service into yourOS?

Yes. If you have an API or an MCP server, you can describe what your app can see and do in one file and build its window with the yourOS kit. Roxy can then use it for people when they ask. Join the makers’ list and we’ll be in touch when Quarter opens.
